DOUBLE WIN IN PORTUGAL FOR OURLUIS AULAR OF CAJA RURAL- SEGUROS RGA
The first victory of the season for Caja Rural-Seguros RGA came in the Classica da Arrabida, thanks to a collective team effort, finished off by the Venezuelan Orluis Aular, repeating his first place in the 2022 edition.
The start of the day was led by three riders who put the other teams on the ropes, creating an advantage of almost three minutes. This was maintained until the last seventy kilometers from the finish, where the final efforts began. When the final ten kilometres were crossed, both Jon Barrenetxea and Giovanni Carboni (EKP) launched an attack that put the peloton in check in search of victory. Their attempt was not rewarded, as they were absorbed a few metres from the finish line. It was Orluis Aular's moment, who took advantage of his top speed to beat Alex Jaime (EKP) at the finish line.
Orluis Aular: “We are very happy to achieve this victory for the team here in Arrabida. It is a race that I am very good at, although the circuit this year was different. We came with a great team, we did a great job from the beginning. When you work like this, the results come. The objective was to win to raise our spirits, it is a great motivation for the team. We want to dedicate the victory to Sergio, so that he can recover well and we can see him with us soon."
The streak of the Caja Rural-Seguros RGA team did not end there, since seven days later the young Venezuelan closed the week as leader in the Volta ao Alentejo. The vicroty was accompanied by the green jersey for his regularity throughout the tour.
With the goal of obtaining the leader's jersey for Orluis, the entire Caja Rural-Seguros RGA team came out to keep the ten-second advantage they had achieved. This was not difficult for Aular, since he not only kept it, but also increased it by an extra second when passing through one of the flying goals.
Carrying out an exceptional race and blocking all the attacks from the opposition, the team prepared for the final sprint. Orluis pushed with all his might towards the finish line, but Leángel Linarez ended up overtaking him, leaving him in second position.
Even so, thanks to all the effort made during the five stages, he was proclaimed two-time winner, taking the leader's jersey for the second consecutive year in the Tour to Alentejo.
Orluis Aular: “I am very happy and grateful for the work of the entire team and staff from start to finish. The reward is very good, we take this victory home repeating what we achieved last year (Arrabida and Alentejo), and it gives us a lot of confidence for the rest of the season. Yesterday's stage was the decisive moment, with a lot of mountains, but the team fully trusted me and helped me during the five days. I like racing in Portugal and why not try to repeat a third win next year”.
