SOFIA RODRIGUEZ WINS THE SPANISH GRAVEL CHAMPIONSHIP

Sofía Rodriguez Campeona de España de Gravel 2024/2025

The NESTA MMR cx team starts the season in style with the absolute victory of Sofia Rodriguez, who becomes the Spanish Gravel Champion for this 2024/2025.

Last weekend the entire NESTA MMR cx team took part in the national gravel championship held in Santo Domingo de Silos. The race had a distance of 135 kilometres and 2,400 meters of unevenness with high level participation, both in the women's and men's race.

In the women's race we had our three runners, Alicia, Lucia and Sofia, who controlled the race from the beginning and began to open a gap with their rivals. Unfortunately, halfway through the race Alicia was disconnected from the leading group due to mechanical problems that caused her to lose time, but Lucia and Sofia continued to dominate the race along with a third companion, Elisa Caldas. In the end, Sofia took the solo victory and thus won her second national title this summer, which has been spectacular for the Valencian rider. Second and silver medal for Lucía González and, in fifth place, Alicia reached the finish line.

Sofía Rodríguez, Spanish Gravel Champion: ‘I am very happy to get this victory in the first Spanish gravel championship. We knew it was a very demanding and long race where the kilometres were going to make a lot of difference, but we came with a good team. Alicia, Lucia and I did a good first part of the race and managed to select the group. Alicia had a puncture that forced her to stay behind and Lucia and I had to deal with a third teammate who came with us. I think we knew how to interpret the race very well and with the work of the two of us we were able to leave behind the third and go all the final stretch together. I want to thank the team for all the effort they are doing for us, the sponsors who make it possible and my teammates’.

In the men's race it was also a great day for Kevin Suárez who finished in 4th position. The Cantabrian rider always rode in good positions but alone he could not close the gap that separated him from the group that finally disputed the medals. His brother Alain, due to numerous breakdowns during the first half of the race, was forced to abandon the race.
