THE SCOTT CALA BANDIDA TAKES ON THE CAPE EPIC 2023
We move to the Western Cape, South Africa, together with Scott Cala Bandida to live CAPE EPIC 2023. Without a doubt, one of the most epic races on the world MTB Marathon scene.
Its peculiar terrain and the extreme temperatures make the Cape Epic a test where not only counts the technique and the physical condition of the runners. Technical failures, crashes and the way to deal with this climate are decisive factors to qualify for the Top10.
After finishing sixth at the 2022 Cape Epic, Sergio Mantecon returns to South Africa, this time as a couple of Jose Mari Sanchez, who finished fifth in the last edition.
“We arrived in good condition and motivated. We are being an example that, despite the adversities, we don't give up and come to Cape Epic excited and ready to give everything. Under normal conditions we are qualified to fight for a top 10 in a race like this with the best in the world, but I am confident that with the trajectory, mentality and experience that José Mari and I come with, they can make us be further ahead. ”
The race will have 648 km and 15,000 of positive elevation gain with seven stages that will end on March 26 in Val de Vie. To face the 8-day race, the Scott Cala Bandida debuts the bicycle Spark RC World Cup, customised for each participant, with their respective blue and black colors. In addition to a new kit, prepared exclusively for this event.
From the department of Gsport Custom we have developed a highly breathable jersey, made entirely of an ultralight mesh fabric, ideal for competing in intensely hot and humid conditions.
The biggest difficulty of this race is not the distance in kilometers, but the difficulty of dealing with nature and terrain. It will take a lot of resistance and perseverance to be able to achieve the objectives of Sergio Mantecon.
