JOSE MARI SÁNCHEZ IS PROCLAIMED XCM CHAMPION OF SPAIN

The Scott Cala Bandida team keeps the Spanish XCM Champion jersey for another year, this time in the hands of José Mari Sánchez. The Andalusian rider won last weekend the Lalin Bike Race, the race that designated the Spanish Champion. On the women's side, Natalia Fischer could not keep her jersey, being proclaimed runner-up.

One of the main objectives of the season was to win the title of Spanish XCM Champion once again. Therefore, the whole team travelled to Lalín (Galicia) to compete for the title in a race lasting more than 4 hours, with a distance of 95 km and more than 2,800 metres of elevation gain in the men's category, and 86 km and 2,600 metres of elevation gain in the women's category.

From the start, José Mari Sánchez and Sergio Mantecón remained in the leading group. However, at the second intermediate pass, some riders took the lead, leaving the rest of the group 40 seconds behind. Despite this, in the final kilometres, the group came back together and José Mari Sánchez took the victory in a sprint to the finish line, winning the coveted Spanish champion's jersey.

"I'm very happy for the victory, for me it's a dream come true. It was a hard fought race that we won in the final sprint so I am very proud of the work" - José Mari Sánchez.
