GSPORT CUSTOM AT THE TRANSPYR
From our Gsport Custom department we have had the pleasure of accompanying this group of friends to live their summer experience: cycling the Transpyr, from coast to coast. +900 Kms 18.178 meters of elevation gain, 7 days and 3 countries.
This year in our search for new adventures, while we were in the privileged Aosta Valley mountaineering, we began to plan our next cycling adventure. We had always wanted to cycle the famous Transpy by bike and two of our members had already done it in the past, from Cadaqués to Irún.
The challenge this year was to do it in reverse and since we had competed in several previous races and all the members were in good shape, we decided to give ourselves some ‘life’ on the mountain passes and on the flats, so that it would be as similar as possible to doing a stage race for 7 days in a row. Accumulating hours and hours on the saddle, but above all moments and landscapes, many landscapes, accompanied by the best company you can have, your best friends accompanying you over mythical climbs, valleys and the occasional hint of cramps.
What can we say about the route, averaging 27.18 km/h (we can't say that we rode slowly and contemplated the landscape), there were climbs that we enjoyed and others where we felt more like testing each other. Tourmalet, Peyreagudes, Aspin, Portillon, may be the most famous and all of them we covered in a single stage with more than 4000 metres of elevation gain. That's the good thing about doing these adventures with your friends, you decide the route, the pace, the stops and the hotels. In the end it's all about creating stories, moments and memories that we'll see in the years to come, and we'll surely miss those times. As they say, don't put off until tomorrow what you can do today, or in this case, this year.
Not everything was perfect, we also had rainy days in the Transpyr, as in the Marie Blanc where not even our best waterproofs were able to stop the water and leave us soaked, those 4 kms in a row at 11% have another taste when you fear to stand up and skid. As well as the occasional puncture, shattered core bearing or some unplanned foray into gravel territory, with some 180 or unexpected but without much more consequences than a pretty bruised shoe. Strava tracks are not always what they say.
All this would not be possible without the help of our friends at GSPORT, who put all their love and good work into helping us design our equipment for each trip, reflecting the spirit of adventure on each occasion, this year on the occasion of the mythical GR11 route that crosses the Pyrenees. As well as advising us on the different ranges and fabrics to ensure the maximum possible comfort along the way. For this adventure we opted for Aero bib short and Aero T jersey from the Gsport cycling clothing customisation range.
We must also admit that we had the support of some parents to face the Transpyr, who accompanied us on their holidays in the Pyrenees and made us feel like real professionals on some of the climbs, whether it was to get rid of clothes halfway up, drop water bottles or take supplies.
Territories familiar to all of us, but which we have enjoyed as never before. Until the next adventure, my friends!
