THIS WAS THE CAPE EPIC OF THE SCOTT CALA BANDIDA
The Cape Epic race is the most legendary race by stages in the world of MTB. A challenge where you get lots of joy but you suffer to, it takes place by pairs in Western, Cape, South Africa.
The SCOTT Cala Bandida was at the this mythic challenge, being represented by Sergio Mantecon and Francesc Guerra, who showed the best version of themselves while competing with the best racers in the world.
The Cape Epic thought of as the Tour of France of the MTB, consist of more than 700km splitted in to 8 days, counting on a timed prologue stage to start the race, followed by another 7 marathon stages. This stages are done each one in a day and after that the times of the racers are added to the other ones they already have. The pairs of racers need to be together during all of the stages, the tracks change every year, but the race always finishes in Western Cape. Since 2007, the highlight of the final stage has been at the Lourensford Wine Estate.
The SCOTT Cala Bandida brought to us some great performances during this edition of the Cape Epic. Sergio and Francesc, had some setbacks during the challenge, but even like this they knew to rise to the challenge and they were able to achieve a 6th place in 4 of the stages. The challenges didn’t finish as expected, this due to the leaving of Guerra who fell the day before, Sergio continued the race alone while Guerra started recovering for the rest of season.
For the occasion, the couple from SCOTT Cala Bandida exposed a special clothing, designed and manufactured for the Cape Epic. The animal print was the main pattern that made them stand out under the layer of dust and mud caused by the wonderful landscapes and terrains of South Africa.
Beyond the result, the race has been quite a challenge and we are proud of the work done. Next year they’ll go back for more. We are convinced that they’ll bring us a spectacle once again.
