CATALINA SOTO (BIZKAIA-DURANGO) LEADS THE SUB23 FEMALE CUP OF SPAIN

The past Sunday 20th of March, the Team Bizkaia-Durango premiered for the first time in the Copa de España Féminas. The first stage Igartza Sari Nagusia that took place in Beasin (Guipúzcoa), was the first race that seted a start to the calendar of stages of the Real Federation of Spanish Cycling (RFEC).

To this first race of the Spanish Cup, they will be followed by other races around the north where the girls from the Team Bizkaia-Durango will give the best they have. The Gran Premio Ciudad de Pontevedra, the VI G. P. Cantabria Deporte Trofeo Ciclismo Femenino Villa de Noja and the XX Balmasedako Emakumeen SariaBalmaseda, among others.

The 2nd prize Igartza Sari Nagusia had more than 400 different cyclists from different catagories. The cadets, with a 31km route, the junior and masters, with a race that was 57 km long, and last but not least, the Elite and Sub23 with 92.3 km and 845m of positive slope, with the start and finish at Beasain. The track looked hilly, including five scoring heights, two of them passing through Liernia and three through Olaberría.

There were 20 racers that stood out, they were the ones who leaded the race and imposing a great rhythm that gave them an advantage over the rest, with a victory at the end by Nadine Gill (SWT). Our racer, Catalina Soto from Bizkaia-Durango, finished 2nd in the Gran Premio Igartza with the leadership in Sub23 of the Cup of Spain. Achieving a 4th position with a great performance being the best racer from the Bizkaia-Durango team.

“The team had a great performance in a really good race, but they would’ve liked to win. Our girls have been the protagonists and they’ve fought the whole race. This 2nd Gran Premio Igartza has helped our racers to assess their fitness state” sad the sports director, Agurtzane Elorriega.
