The Bizkaia Durango kicks off the season at the Setmana Valenciana.
The season kicks off for Bizkaia Durango. A women's team that has remained professional since 2004 and to which we predict a successful 2022.
The cycling team Bizkaia Durango participated in the Setmana Ciclista Valenciana, a UCI category 2.1 race that has become a tradition. It was the first stage race on their calendar, featuring 4 stages and over 480 kilometers to test themselves and find their rhythm. Local riders Alba Teruel and Sofía Rodríguez led the 'pink' expedition alongside Eukene Larrarte, Iris Gómez, Aileen Schweikart, Beatriz Pereira, and Irene Méndez.
"We had good sensations two weeks ago in the debut, and we come to Setmana with a lot of desire to give our best and try to fight for some interesting results. I believe we bring a very solid team, and above all, very balanced, both in terms of the type of riders and the mix of youth and experience we have," stated Agurtzane Elorriaga, sports director of Bizkaia-Durango.
Aileen Schweikart finished as the top rider for Bizkaia-Durango in the overall classification of the Valencia tour. We must highlight the hard fall suffered by Iris Gómez in the third stage, which resulted in a fractured elbow that required surgery. We wish her a speedy recovery.
