Jefferson Cepeda with the big names of the Tour in O Gran Camiño.
Ecuadorian cyclist Jefferson Cepeda led the green squad in O Gran Camiño.
In this new edition of O Gran Camiño, marked by the intense rain that the cyclists had to endure, Ecuadorian rider Jefferson Cepeda of Caja Rural-Seguros RGA, managed to compete among the top riders and finish the race just 3 seconds away from the podium, thus demonstrating his good form at the beginning of the season.
During the second stage, Jefferson Cepeda achieved his best result, where he went head-to-head with 3 riders, 2 of whom have won the Tour de France (Jonas Vingegaard and Egan Bernal). Cepeda's performance was truly remarkable as he managed to stay with them until the final part of the stage, where Vingegaard broke away from the group with a strong attack.
Jefferson Cepeda gave us these statements: "I was eager to demonstrate all the preparation I've done at home. The team has been with me all day, protecting and sheltering me from the wind so that I lacked nothing, and I also wanted to perform well for them. In the final climb, it's true that I found myself with two Tour winners, but at that moment I was only thinking about fighting for the victory. In the end, I achieved a good third place, and for now, we've gained some significant seconds that will help us finish this race in the best possible way."
Uruguayan rider Thomas Silva also played a leading role with several top finishes, extending his strong start to the season. As a result of his hard work, he managed to break into the top fifteen in the general classification (14th).
Throughout O Gran Camiño, the team's fighting spirit was always evident with several breakaway performances by Sebastian Berwick and Jokin Murguialday.
Due to the inclement weather, the riders decided to wear their Aquazero clothing, which is water-repellent and resistant to water.
Our riders, especially Jefferson Cepeda, have had a great four-day race. Congratulations!
